About Me.
Hi. I'm Candace Wilson. I was born in Guyana, South America. My family then moved to Dominica, a small island in the Caribbean. We lived there for 3 and 1/2 years. We then moved to Ontario, California for a year, then to Nashville, Tennessee. We lived in Tennessee for 3 and 1/2 years and subsequently moved to Rancho Cucamonga, California. We have been in Rancho since I was in 7th grade and I love it. However, my studies have led me to migrate from Rancho Cucamonga many times. I moved to Riverside for my undergraduate education. I attened the University of California, Riverside from 2002-2006. I majored in Biology and obtained a minor in Spanish. During the summer after my sophomore year at UCR I completed a research project in Mexico City which looked for a therapeutic vaccine for the HPV virus. This experience inspired me to attend graduate school. I began the Masters in Biotechnology/ MBA program at CSUCI in the fall of 2006. My time at CSUCI led me to my career at Oxnard College. I currently teach Biology lecture and laboratory at Oxnard College. I will be teaching Microbiology Laboratory at Oxnard College during the summer months. When my time here at Channel Islands comes to an end, I plan to attend medical school. I should be starting this last leg of my educational career in August if all goes well. But I will definately miss eveyone I met here at Channel Islands!!

ReplyDeleteyour ambitition in life inspires me... why to go Candace...
ReplyDeleteDear Professor Wilson,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Samantha Bassetti and I am currently enrolled in the Microbiology course for the summer at Oxnard College.
I was wait listed for your lab course portion and was listed at the #1 spot. I even have my registration paperwork that I printed out that shows my position as first on the wait list.
I am enrolled in another course and lab for the summer and noticed last week that the Micro lab would exceed my number of allowable units by 1 unit. I contacted the counseling office and spoke with them and was assured that this wasn't a problem and that I could fill out the necessary paperwork for an extra unit on the first day of class.
I received an email this morning stating that I was up for automatic enrollment in the lab course but was automatically dropped from the wait list because of exceeding the maximum level of units.
So not only have I potentially lost my spot in the lab course...I have now also lost my #1 top spot on the wait list.
I live three hours away - this is why I wasn't able to take care of the extra unit paperwork right away. I have made arrangements to move there for the summer and have quit my job in order to complete these courses.
I need this course and lab in order to apply to RN programs. If I am unable to complete this course I will be unable to submit my applications on time - which in turn will result in up to a year longer before I can apply for the programs I am interested in.
I did not have an email address for you and upon contacting the school today learned that they are now closed every Friday for the rest of the summer. I went frantically searching on the internet in hopes of finding a means of contacting you and came across your blog.
I am in desperate need of this lab course and am now in a state of panic. I was wait listed at number one, I am enrolled in the course and have quit my job to move there for the summer.
Is there any way that you can help me? Is there any way that you can add me into your lab course? I would be happy to send you a copy of my registration information showing that I was #1 on the wait list.
I would be so grateful if you could help me in this situation. My email address is samantha_thomas_7@hotmail.com. If you could contact me either way I would greatly appreciate it.
I want to thank you in advance for your time, understanding, and possible help with my situation.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Samantha Bassetti
